Artspace Summer 08 Intensives for Kids
All classes for children are 9 to noon, Monday – Friday. All Intensives are $160 unless otherwise noted.

July 7-11  Summer Strings Intensive with Anna Wetherby & Cecilia Berger
Ages 6 - 14 

    Violin, viola and cello students are invited to participate. Students must have 3 months study experience with private teacher or 1 year of group lessons.  Participants will play in parts in large and small ensembles. Students will improve their sight-reading, rhythm and listening skills. Posture and holding the instrument correctly will be stressed. Will have a break for snack each day.  Concert performance on Friday.
     

July 7 – 11 Crafts with Rhonda Wainshilbaum Ages 6-9

    Crafts are beautiful as well as useful. We will make papier-mache bowls, pottery vases, sculpy jewelry and candleholders, paper bead necklaces. woven bags, batik wall hangings, and a sewn pillow. There will also be time for kids to use materials to make projects of their choosing.
     

July 14-18   Hello Color! for Kids with Sara Acton  Ages 5-7

    Do your kids love reading Mouse Paint or Hello, Red Fox? Explore color through a variety fun experiments and discussions that shed light on rainbows, the color wheel, how colors make you feel, and color mixing. Using these ideas as inspiration, students will create colorful, original drawings, paintings, and collages.
     

July 14-18   Clay Week with Rhonda Wainshilbaum   Ages 8-12

    Make ceramic tiles, masks, animal and people sculptures using hand-building and potter's wheel techniques. We will also make mosaic flowerpots and birdbath.
     

July 21- 25  Beginning Guitar Intensive Ages 9-15

    Guitarist Brooks Williams will lead this weeklong intensive. Concert on Friday.
     

July 21-25 Famous Artist Week with Rhonda Wainshilbaum Ages 7-12

    Make masks and cubist collages inspired by Picasso, lily pad paintings like Monet's, a landscape painting on canvas board with brush strokes like Van Gogh's, and a relief print of you with a friend inspired by Mary Cassatt. Then make a painting in your own style!
     

July 28 – Aug. 2 Three-in-One: Bookmaking, Printmaking, & Self-Portraiture
Ages 8-12  Sara Acton, Instructor

    First, learn simple tips and techniques about proportion and line to improve the way you draw faces - especially your own! Second, discover creative ways to make prints (drawings and designs) with household objects like foam meat trays, vegetables, and glue. Finally, bring it all together by learning a variety of ways to "publish" your art work in folded-paper artists' books

Aug. 4 -8 Design & Draw Dinosaurs with Sara Acton  Ages 6-10

    Love dinosaurs? Class will begin by covering basic techniques for successfully drawing those wild prehistoric creatures. Students will also discuss scale, shape, line, pattern, and color when their original drawings are turned into large-scale dinosaur paintings. The dinosaur adventures continue when students prepare and roll a clay slab to create a relief sculpture of "fossilized" bones

Aug. 11-15     Intermediate Guitar Intensive with Brooks Williams  Ages 9- 15  

    Come learn new songs and play with other guitarists! Learn how to read guitar tablature! Players should be able to strum or pick the basic chords (D, G, A, E, C, Am, Em). Concert on Friday.
